Online Therapy
According to various scientific studies, online therapy is similar in effectiveness to face-to-face meetings. However, in online therapy, the client is responsible for preparing the most favorable context for the encounter.
Here are some recommendations to consider for our meeting:
Equipment:
To receive therapy online, you obviously need a computer, smartphone or tablet that can ideally access the Internet network secured by a password. These devices must have an audio and video system to facilitate interactions (I suggest using headphones). As far as I'm concerned, my computer has a secure network that aims to protect documentation and customer data.
I recommend using a computer or tablet more to avoid interruptions with messages or calls that might come to the phone during the meeting.
It may be beneficial to test the internet connection and the technology (camera, microphone, software used) before the meeting.
Environment:
Therapy is a very intimate and private conversation. Thus, it is strongly recommended to settle in a space:
• Quiet and private.
• Well aluminized.
• Sit comfortably, ideally with your feet on the floor.
• Do not eat during the meeting. But, it is advisable to have some water or something to drink.
• Avoid having other distractions (message notifications, calls, websites, etc.).
• Have access to paper and pencil to take notes during the meeting.
